Events In Motion

RHL Activities Limited is recognised as one of the leading off-road motorcycle events promoters in the United Kingdom. Under the stewardship of Gareth Hockey, RHL have graduated from running grass roots events to organising, managing and promoting the two largest off-road motorcycle sports events held in the United Kingdom during 2008.

For over a decade RHL Activities have been the driving force behind the unique Weston Beach Race, which in 2008 attracted close to 2000 competitors and a record crowd of 100,000 people to the normally sleepy seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare.

2008 was also the year that Gareth Hockey launched RHL Activities on the world stage having been granted the rights by the world governing body of motorcycle sport, the FIM, to organise and stage the British round of the Motocross World Championship.

The British Motocross Grand Prix has a chequered history, and not all of it successful, but the success of the RHL team in staging what was referred to by the press and public alike as the best British Grand Prix for a decade was rewarded with official recognition at the annual championship awards when Gareth Hockey stepped up to receive the award for best infrastructure at a Grand Prix event.

The RHL team has grown to include some of the most experienced and respected figures in off-road motorcycle sport, covering all areas from event management, track preparation, Health & Safety, and promotion. A team that is focused on raising the bar and achieving new levels of organisational and commercial success for the benefit of all participants - riders, fans, sponsors, and governing bodies.

2009 promises to be another exciting year for RHL. Alongside the British Motocross Grand Prix and the Weston Beach Race, RHL will launch a new concept with the Handlebar Festival over the Easter weekend.

Designed to promote off-road motorcycling to the next generation of riders, the Handlebar Festival will combine the popular MX3 World Championship with mini-bike racing, freestyle motocross, trials displays and a number of different off-road cycling disciplines such as 4X mountain biking, BMX racing and BMX dirt jumping displays.

The aim of this festival of all things handlebar is simple; to introduce the next generation of riders to the world of off-road motorcycling through an event that will allow them not just to see the different disciplines available, but also to try a motorcycle or quad for size under the direction of qualified industry experts.

Gareth Hockey is delighted to be able to look back over a successful year in 2008, but the dynamic head of RHL Activities is determined to take things to the next level in 2009 by continuing to improve the British Motocross Grand Prix and the Weston Beach Race, as well as safeguarding the future of off-road motorcycle sport by using the Handlebar Festival to attract a new generation of off-road enthusiasts.

"We have worked hard this year to make the Weston Beach Race bigger and better than ever, and to build the British Motocross Grand Prix into something that all motocross fans in the United Kingdom can be proud of. I think we achieved a lot in 2008, but we don't intend to rest on our laurels and the introduction of the Handlebar Festival is just one of the things we're currently working on to provide motocross fans with exciting, value for money events, and to attract the next generation of riders into our sport."
