THREE COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP RESURRECTED

THREE COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP RESURRECTED

Phil Roberts and Gareth Hockey will resurrect the popular Three Counties Winter Motocross Championship in 2009, almost ten years after the event last appeared on the calendar.

The championship, which in the 1990's was organised by Roberts, together with Kelvin Pickering and John Willis, and ran over just three rounds, was well supported and popular with local riders.

The new incarnation of the championship will run over nine rounds, and will feature three adult classes - expert, junior and novice - together with youth classes for combined 85cc machines.

The championship will run with rounds in Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire and Herefordshire, with three rounds scheduled for the popular Pontrilas track.

Registration for the whole series costs just £25, with all the registration money being ploughed back into the championship as prize money. Each individual round will cost just £35 to enter.

"The Three Counties Winter Series used to be a popular and well supported event in the 1990's, and we think the time is now right for the championship to be resurrected," declared Hockey. "We've designed the series to make it appealing to everyone in these cost conscious times, and we can guarantee some close and exciting racing in all classes. I certainly hope that, in its new nine round format, the championship will prove as popular and entertaining as it was in its original heyday."
